Suitable Candidates for Nostril Reduction Surgery

The fleshy parts of the nose that connect the nostrils to the face are called "alar". Alar can vary greatly from person to person. It can be thicker or thinner, longer or shorter, wider or narrower. In some ethnicities, for instance, individuals with African genetic heritage have wider nose wings. Nostril reduction surgery can also be applied to people who have undergone rhinoplasty but have asymmetries in their nostrils after the procedure.

The nostril reduction procedure is performed under local anesthesia in an average of 15-30 minutes.

During the procedure, people do not feel any pain.

The procedure can be performed under sterile clinical conditions or in a hospital setting.

After the procedure, hospital rest is not required, people can be discharged on the same day. 

After Nostril Reduction Surgery

In the first 2 hours after the nostril reduction surgery, no pain is felt due to the effect of anesthesia.After the effect of the anesthesia wears off, a slight tingling pain may be felt and this pain can be easily controlled with painkillers.The sutures used during the procedure are removed by the physician 7-10 days later.

After nostril reduction aesthetics, the operation area is kept dry and clean for a week.There may be edema and bruising in the first week after the procedure. It is a very natural and temporary process.

Local ice application for the first 48 hours after the procedure will help reduce edema and bruising.After the procedure, the scars should be kept away from sunlight for a few months and after taking the necessary precautions, they can be exposed to the sun. 

Nostril reduction surgery (Alarplasty) Complications and Risks 

Complications of alarplasty, that is, nostril reduction surgery, are rarer than other surgical procedures performed on the nose. Nostril reduction surgery is a safe and quick surgical procedure, but as with any surgical procedure, alarplasty can come with some potential risks, as follows:

  • Bruising and edema
  • Bleeding
  • Redness
  • Postoperative asymmetry of the nostrils
  • Some pain and/or numbness
  • Scar
