The cleft lip emerges due to the merger defect of the baby's facial region due to various reasons in the embryological period. Lip cleft, also known as rabbit lipped, is also seen in one of every 1,000 births.
There is no single reason for this congenital anomaly;
- Genetical Factors
- Viral Infections,
- Consanguineous Marriage,
- Lack of Vitamins,
- Mother’s use of alcohol and tobacco products in pregnancy,
can cause anomalies.
The baby may have a lip cleft, palate cleft, or both.
