Who Are the Best Candidates for
a Tummy Tuck?

Firstly, any woman and man who does not have any health problems and need this surgery may have a tummy tuck surgery.

Especially in men, frequent weight gain and loss; in women, more than one pregnancy could cause abdominal muscles to stretch. As a result, no matter how much weight is lost, they cannot get rid of the saggy skin in the abdominal area.

Furthermore, as a result of the deformities occurring in the collagen, the skin may not return to its old, firm look despite intense exercise and sports. Any healthy individual with saggy abdominal skin may have a tummy tuck surgery for reasons such as pregnancy, frequent weight gain, and loss.

Tummy Tuck - Review

What is Tummy Tuck?

Tummy Tuck, which has several different types, is a procedure based on removing saggy tissue on the skin of the abdomen and repairing loose muscles.

Having a fit abdomen is a dream that both men and women want to achieve throughout their lives. The desired look may be lost due to excessive weight gain-loss or pregnancy. As a result, we try to obtain this look with intense exercise and sports activities.

However, for some reason, no matter how intense diet and how much exercise is done, the desired look may not be achieved. In this case, patients can achieve this appearance with appropriate tummy tuck surgeries

How to prepare for a tummy tuck?

The first step is to choose a surgeon you can trust throughout the process. The most important thing here is to meet the surgeon you choose face to face. During these meetings, you will be able to ask about your requests and questions.

Quitting smoking before and after the procedure will be beneficial because it makes the existing complications more likely and slows recovery. Also, you should inform your doctor in detail about the medication you use, diseases you have, and previous operations that you have undergone.

With the help of a good diet before and after the procedure, you can speed up your recovery process.

How is a tummy tuck procedure performed?

After deciding on the tummy tuck surgery, you will be examined in detail by the anesthesiologist. This examination will be on the day of surgery or earlier and after the necessary tests.

After your suitability for surgery is confirmed, eating and drinking will be stopped 8 hours before the surgery.

Then your surgeon will make the necessary drawings for the surgery and then you will be taken to the operation room.

The operation takes an average of 1-3 hours. After the procedure, negative pressure drains are used to prevent bleeding. At the end of the operation, after the necessary dressings are made and the corset is dressed, patients are taken to the room where they will rest for one night.

Recovery after surgery

After the operation, patients stay one night in the hospital. Since painkillers are used during this period, pain is controlled. Patients are moved and helped to get up after surgery. After resting for one night, the patients are discharged after removing their drains.

After being discharged, patients use painkillers that the surgeon prescribed to control the pain. After a week of rest, patients can return to their daily lives and start their desk jobs.

On the 2nd day after the procedure, the dressing is changed under the control of the doctor and no dressing more is required. Since all stitches are subcutaneous stitches, stitching is not required after the procedure.

FAQs

I have been doing sports for a while. Although I have been working my abdominal muscles for a long time, I cannot have my abs as visible as I want. Which surgery should I consider to achieve this? Will tummy tuck surgery provide me with the result I want?

Abdominal muscles may separate and lose their original form due to frequent weight gain and birth. In this case, exercise and diets may not respond positively. Separated abdominal muscles are repaired with tight stitches during abdominoplasty, so it is possible to obtain a flat and tight abdomen.

I want to have a tummy tuck surgery, when I researched, I saw that the excess part of the abdomen was removed. Since I have cracked abdominal skin, how much can we reduce this image after this surgery? Or should I have a separate surgery for cracks?

A crack formation may occur as the abdominal skin is overstretched after childbirth and frequent weight gain/loss. This cracked skin may get back its old form and a saggy appearance appears. During tummy tuck surgery, the sagging skin and the cracked-looking part can be removed.

I want to have a tummy tuck surgery, but I am wondering, will the remaining skin be flexible enough after the excess skin is removed? Will I still have a cracked and flexible abdominal skin after a small-scale weight gain or a pregnancy?

Thanks to its elastic structure, the skin constantly stretches and becomes abundant with weight gain and loss over the years. Even if the skin which becomes abundant with abdominoplasty is removed, the skin continues to protect its elastic structure. However, it is possible for it to sag again due to reasons such as pregnancy.

How will my pain be after tummy tuck surgery and how much will my movements be restricted?

Tightening the abdominal muscles may cause restrictions in the first few days after surgery. But after 2-3 days, patients can easily return to their daily life.

Are there any routine behaviors such as sleeping position, sitting, etc. that I need to pay attention to after tummy tuck surgery?

In the first two days after tummy tuck surgery, people may not stand very upright due to pain, short walks should be made during this period and should not be inactive.

Do sports, exercise, etc. after the tummy tuck cause any problems with the stitches?

There is no harm in doing light exercises in the first month after a tummy tuck. Exercises such as walking should be continued without a break.

Does getting pregnant a little after the tummy tuck surgery cause problems in stitching, surgery scar?

If a pregnancy is planned after tummy tuck surgery, the surgery should be postponed. Pregnancy should not be a case for at least 6 months after the surgery to fully recover.

For how long do I need to wear a corset?

A corset is worn for 6 weeks after the procedure. Special warnings will be given to you by your doctor during use.

Am I going to have visible scars after tummy tuck surgery?

More or less a scar remains after each surgical operation. This scar fades over time and turns to skin colour. There are some moisturizers used to make the scar less visible. However, no matter which method is used, it is not possible to completely remove this scar. Yet, it is possible to hide this trail. During the procedure, this scar can be hidden in the bikini area.

What age should I be to have a tummy tuck?

Every healthy individual who has completed their development can have a tummy tuck surgery. This development is usually completed around the age of 18-20.

How long after pregnancy must I wait before having a tummy tuck?

You should wait at least 6 months after pregnancy because both the breastfeeding period and weight loss continue. After a tummy tuck surgery performed during this period could lead to unexpected results.

Can I get pregnant after having a tummy tuck?

There is no problem getting pregnant 6 months after the tummy tuck surgery.

What effect will weight gain or weight loss have on the results of a tummy tuck?

The sagging of the abdominal skin and stretching of the muscles are the result of rapid weight loss. Gaining and losing weight after tummy tuck surgery may cause this skin to sag and muscles to stretch again.

Are the results of a tummy tuck permanent?

The results are permanent as long as patients maintain their weight. However, the ageing, as in the whole body, causes sagging in the skin of the abdomen over time.

Will a tummy tuck get rid of stretch marks?

In Tummy Tuck surgery, stretch marks will be removed along with the sagged skin

What will happen to my belly button after a tummy tuck?

The belly button is not touched during mini tummy tuck surgery. However, in the full Tummy Tuck operation, the belly button is removed to stretch the tissue remaining on the around it. After that, the belly button is placed in its new location.

Aftercare instructions:

However, possible risks can be listed as follows;

What is called Abdominoplasty?

Full Abdominoplasty, mini-abdominoplasty, or Tummy Tuck is a cosmetic surgery that is performed by plastic surgeons to correct the deformities inside or outside of the abdominal wall by removing the sagging skin on the abdomen, caused by pregnancy, childbirth, or significant weight gain or loss. The main purpose of Abdominoplasty, also known as Tummy tuck, is to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall in addition to pulling the skin on the abdominal wall pubic area. The extra skin was removed. As a result of removing sagging skin or excess skin, the abdomen area is tighter, straight, and without folds.

How is performed Abdominoplasty surgery?

Tummy Tuck or abdominoplasty surgery starts with liposuction since there is extra fat tissue on the upper abdomen and back. Liposuction is also important in terms of the elasticity of the abdominal skin that will be tightened in addition to reduce fat tissue.

After performing liposuction, the abdominal skin is lifted by a surgical incision. The abdominal navel as known as the belly button is removed and the abdominal skin is separated from the muscles of the abdominal wall up to the chest area.

After separating the muscles of the abdominal wall, the week muscles are fixed and tightened by performing a procedure we call Plication. At this stage,

abdominal hernias can be repaired “if found”. Before creating a new belly button that it should be found exactly where it should be after abdominoplasty surgery, the abdominal skin is stretched to the pubic area.

A surgical drain is placed to prevent leakage after surgery. The sutures are dissolvable so the patients do not have to see the doctor over the stitches. To prevent the patient from any kind of risk and complications, the patient should stay at the hospital for 3 nights after the surgery.

What is the procedure? How to begin with consultation?

At Istanbul Safe Medical, our patients all around the world can have a free consultation with our patient consultants. During a free consultation, all the patients should be informed correctly and individually. Each body is unique and there can not be one absolute treatment. The patient should consult the surgeon indirectly through our patient consultants and should be able to consult directly as well. As a part of a free consultation, our patients may ask to consult our surgeon online. Also, they can ask to have a free consultation with the surgeon at his clinic.

What is the difference between mini and full abdominoplasty?

A full abdominoplasty is performed on the entire abdomen area including both the upper and lower abdomen. We make sure the incision scar is at the bikini line so that the patients who have full abdominoplasty can hide the scar easily under the underwear. Full abdominoplasty surgery starts with the incision on the bikini line and the skin is lifted to the chest area to perform stretching to the looser muscles. No matter how much the skin is stretched, muscle repair, muscle tightening by dissolvable stitches should be performed during full abdominoplasty for the best results. Depending on the location of the stretching, the muscle tissue is sutured from the upper abdomen to the incision line or from the belly button to the incision line.

There are two scars after full abdominoplasty surgery:

  • Around the belly button because it is replaced compatible with the new the shape of the abdomen area,
  • The second is at the bikini line which is easy to hide under the underwear.

Mini abdominoplasty is performed for people who have slight sagging. Mini abdominoplasty is called when the surgery is performed below the belly button. During both mini-abdominoplasty and full abdominoplasty, liposuction is performed.

The full tummy tuck is performed on people who have severe sagging.

Intervention is also performed on the navel and the surgical incisions can be longer than the incisions made in the mini tummy tuck.
