Today's health technologies have made itpossible for patients to have a breast structure that is extremely similar totheir natural breast structure after breast reconstruction.

Who Is Breast Repair Performed In Turkey?

Breast reconstruction is commonly performed onwomen who have had a mastectomy after breast cancer. However, breast repair cansometimes be applied to eliminate problems caused by trauma. The widespreadapplication of breast reconstruction in recent years has also increased thesuccess rate in the results obtained from these operations.

For patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer at a stage where surgery is possible, recovery after chemotherapy or radiotherapy usually occurs within 1 or 2 years. If the diagnosis is made at an early stage, breast reconstruction can also be performed during the mastectomy operation.

Breast reconstruction is an operation planned and performed jointly by general surgeons and plastic surgeons. If the general health of the patients requires the postponement of breast reconstruction, breast reconstruction surgery can be performed at any time after mastectomy.

How Is Breast Repair Performed In Turkey?

If the breast reconstruction operation will beperformed after mastectomy, the general surgeon and the plastic surgeonevaluate the general health status of the patient together. The operation canbe performed using tissue expanders and prostheses, or it can be performedusing tissues taken from the patient himself. In addition, stem cell-enrichedtissue transplantation is one of the commonly used methods in breastreconstruction surgeries.

The methods and details of the methods used in breast reconstruction surgeries are as follows:

Breast Repair with Prosthesis

Breast reconstruction with prosthesis is one of the most frequently used methods after mastectomy.

The steps followed during the operation are as follows:

  • The patient is put under general anesthesia,
  • After the tissues on the chest wall are prepared, an incision is made under the breast, this incision may vary according to the shape and size of the prosthesis to be placed,

  • Drains are placed to prevent blood and fluid accumulation and these drains are usually removed after a few days.
  • After the breast tissues and muscles are arranged, the prosthesis is placed under or above the chest wall,

If there is skin loss during mastectomy, the operation is performed with tissue expanders.

The steps of this operation are as follows:

  • During the mastectomy, an empty silicone balloon called a tissue expander is placed under the chest muscle,
  • It takes approximately 3 weeks for the tissues to heal after mastectomy,
  • After the expansion is completed, the tissue expander is removed with a second surgery and a silicone prosthesis is placed in its place.

  • Injection for enlargement usually continues until it reaches 50 percent more of the breast size,
  • After recovery, the silicone balloon is inflated by injecting saline for 2 to 3 months,

The methods to be applied may vary according to the surgeon's decision and the general health status of the patient.

Can Breast Sagging Be Prevented?

Breast sagging can be slowed down to someextent, but unfortunately, sagging, which is a physiological process, cannot becompletely prevented by natural means. Theoretically, paying attention tonutrition and exercise habits, using the right bras that support the breasttissue, and acquiring the right posture habits can be effective in preventingthe breasts from sagging faster than normal.

However, especially in situations such as pregnancy that cause sudden hormonal irregularities and weight gains in the body, the shape and size of the breasts also undergo uncontrollable deformation. Even if the pregnancy is terminated and returned to the normal weight range, the loss of elasticity in the skin cannot be restored. For this reason, the most effective method to reverse this unstoppable natural process is plastic surgery. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to consult a specialist doctor in order to solve the problems of sagging in the breasts.

How Is Breast Lift Operation Performed?

Breast lift operation is a plastic surgery procedure applied to treat sagging in breast tissue, also known as mastopexy. Although the risk of sagging is higher in individuals with large breasts, the most determining factor is skin quality. For this reason, the operation process is planned according to the needs of the person and the loss of elasticity experienced.

In people who are taken to the operatingroom after a minimum of 6-8 hours of fasting, the procedure steps usuallyproceed as follows:

After the operation, which is completed inapproximately 1.5-2 hours, a 1-day hospital rest is usually recommended. Theincision marks made during the procedure lose their clarity within an averageof 1 year.

What is the Post-Operation Process?

With the breast lift operation, the desired form of breasts can be obtained. However, as the surgery is performed by a surgeon who is expert in the field, there are some important issues to be considered after the procedure.

If these recommendations are followed, the healing process will be more comfortable and the risk of complications will be much lower:

      • Discharged patients should follow the physician's recommendations and rest at home for the recommended time.
      • The breasts cannot regain their ideal form immediately after the operation, so it may take 1-2 months for the full results to appear. During this time, it is extra important to protect the area from impacts, excessive sunlight and heat.
      •  In the first few weeks, sports bras that support the breast tissue should be used, this period is planned according to the needs of the person and ends with regular physician controls.

        • For a few weeks, strenuous movements, heavy sports and carrying loads should be avoided.
        • After the procedure, there may be mild pain, ache and edema in the area. These complaints are met normally and are easily resolved with the help of drugs prescribed by the physician. For this reason, it is necessary to use drugs and other ointments, if any, regularly.
        • It is recommended to stay away from environments with risk of infection such as baths, sea and pools until the area is fully healed.

Just like in other interventions that require anesthesia, there are some risks in breast lift surgery. However, these risks can be completely eliminated with the right choice of physician and a healthy recovery process.

Breast Repair with the Patient's Own Tissue

In this method, which is considered to be acomplex procedure, autogenous tissues taken from the patients themselves areused. This procedure, which is performed some time after the mastectomyoperation, is suitable for individuals who have failed breast repair surgeryafter breast cancer treatment. Because prostheses usually do not give resultsin areas receiving radiotherapy.

The skin and subcutaneous tissues required for repair processes can be taken from different parts of the body. The tissues in question are transported together with the muscles and the vessels that feed the muscles. The transfer of tissues called flaps can be done directly by separating the tissues from the body and connecting them to the vessels in the chest under the microscope, or by moving the entire muscle to the chest. Tissues are usually carried from the abdominal tissue under the navel or from the wing muscle on the back.
